Platelet Rich Plasma & Hair Restoration
Platelet Rich Plasma Treatments
Over the years, studies have shown that Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments can stimulate hair growth for individuals who have experienced hair loss. PRP is a plasma gel created using a patient’s own blood that is enriched with growth factors to stimulate healing. At the Clevens Hair Institute, our award-winning board certified surgeon and hair transplant expert Ross A. Clevens, MD, FACS is a world-renowned pioneer in the use of PRP. For more than 15 years, Dr. Clevens has utilized PRP in his practice to speed healing, improve outcomes, and minimize downtime for his patients. In 2014, Dr. Clevens was the only American doctor invited to speak at the Biobridge Regeneration International Conference in Venice, Italy to share his expertise on PRP with other physicians and scientists. We offer PRP therapy as an option for both female and male patients who wish to reverse the signs of hair loss and regrow more voluminous healthy hair naturally and nonsurgically.
PRP & Hair Restoration
Androgenic Alopecia (AGA), sometimes referred to as male pattern baldness, is a common condition seen in both men and women. More than 3 million cases of AGA are diagnosed every year in the United States. The most notable signs of AGA include thinning at the crown, a receding hairline and loss of hair along the hair-part.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option to stimulate hair growth. PRP is derived from mesenchymal stem cells, extracted from the blood. Rich in essential growth factors, these stem cells are shown to stimulate tissue regeneration and speed healing. Previous trials have proven PRP to provide a safe and effective improvement for hair loss across a broad range of patients. To administer the treatment, our providers draw your blood and “spin” it into separate components to create a plasma gel with a high concentration of platelets. The gel is then injected into the scalp to stimulate hair growth. Typically, patients receive a series of the treatments to achieve optimal results.
Clinical studies have been conducted showing that PRP in hair restoration can:
- Promote the formation of skin, replication of cells, and growth of blood vessels
- Treat hair loss in patients diagnosed with male/female pattern baldness nonsurgically with no risk of allergic reaction since the treatment utilizes the patient’s own blood
- Improve outcomes, speed healing and reduce downtime when combined with other hair restoration methods
