Follicular Unit Extraction
Hair Restoration in Melbourne
Many individuals struggling with hair loss or thinning hair want to find a permanent solution. Today, transplantation of follicles from a donor site to a recipient site where hair is thinning is the only proven way to permanently restore a receding hairline. Advances in hair restoration technology have led many doctors away from the traditional strip method towards less-invasive procedures to treat hair loss. At the Clevens Hair Institute based in Melbourne, FL, we use the follicular unit extraction (FUE) method, which is a newer and safer technique for permanently restoring hair and achieving natural-looking results. Our award-winning Ivy League trained hair restoration specialist uses this method to help our patients get their hair back without the disadvantages associated with the more painful and invasive strip method.
The FUE procedure is better than the strip method in many ways, including:
- It is more precise and produces a natural appearance
- There is much less bleeding and fewer complications
- There is no scarring (linear), sutures, or incisions in the donor area
- It does not require IV sedation and can be done as an outpatient procedure
- It is much safer and has less downtime
How FUE (follicular unit extraction) Works
Our team of hair restoration experts begins by creating a personalized FUE treatment plan designed to meet your unique goals. Next, we prepare the donor area, a section typically on the back of the head where your hair has greater density. The follicles in the donor area are removed in the most inconspicuous way to ensure your remaining hair in that area appears just as full as before. Follicles are extracted from your scalp by isolating the graft and removing them individually using an instrument similar to tweezers. Our experienced technicians then work to carefully place your grafts in the areas where you most want to replenish volume for a natural-looking result, providing coverage of your thinning areas to match your true hairline.
Following your FUE procedure, the treated area will heal in just a few days, and approximately 3-4 months later, you will start to see your new head of hair growing. After six months post-op, you’ll see your optimal result and your transplanted hair will continue to grow naturally and can be styled any way you choose.
To determine if you are a candidate for an FUE hair restoration procedure, you will need to meet with our board-certified surgeon. Call us today at (321) 727-3223 to request a consultation.
